Context

As the AI roadmap toolkit project continues to take shape, a significant milestone was reached this week: launching the foundational elements of the toolkit’s online presence. This step is critical in creating a clear brand identity for the project while also ensuring that the toolkit is easily accessible and user-friendly. In addition, I sought feedback from peers and colleagues to refine the toolkit’s structure and approach, aiming to align it with the needs and expectations of potential users.

Action

The first major action was conceptualising and creating a brand identity for the project. After reflecting on the toolkit’s goals and long-term vision, I decided to broaden the project’s focus beyond just AI to encompass equitable technology as a whole. This shift is reflected in the new brand name, Equitable Tech Aotearoa, which will future-proof the project by allowing it to evolve with technological advancements. I also secured the domain name equitabletech.co.nz and launched a basic shell website, setting the stage for future content and resources. For the purposes of this project I will post one project to this site: the Equitable AI Roadmap.

Additionally, I sought detailed feedback from peers and colleagues on the toolkit prototype. I presented the framework I’ve been developing, highlighting the phased approach, key resources, and checkpoints. The feedback sessions were structured around strengths, risks, and next steps, encouraging constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement. This input is invaluable as I work to refine the toolkit and ensure it meets the diverse needs of the organisations that will use it.

Result

The result of these actions has been a significant step forward in establishing the project’s identity and its online presence. The new brand name and domain give the project a more adaptive and forward-thinking focus, positioning it to address broader technological challenges while staying true to its purpose in equity and inclusion. The website, though still in its early stages, provides a solid foundation that will be built upon as the project progresses.

The feedback gathered from peers and colleagues offered fresh perspectives on the toolkit, particularly regarding its usability, structure, and potential risks. This input highlighted areas that need further development and provided concrete ideas for enhancing the toolkit’s effectiveness. The structured feedback process also reinforced the importance of collaboration and iterative design in creating a tool that is both practical and impactful.

Learning

This week’s developments reinforced the value of adaptability and foresight in project design. By broadening the project’s scope and securing a domain that reflects this expanded vision, I’ve ensured that Equitable Tech Aotearoa can evolve alongside emerging technologies and remain relevant. The branding process was a reminder of the importance of clear, intentional communication in creating a lasting impact.

The peer feedback process also underscored the significance of collaboration. Engaging others in the development process not only enriched the toolkit’s design but also provided validation for the direction I’m taking. The insights gained from these sessions will guide the next phase of refinement, ensuring that the toolkit is well-rounded and ready for real-world application.
